Method

The starting point of my working method is “biomechanics”: a movement theory in which movements of joints, muscles and limbs are studied.

To be able to move properly, whether you walk, skate or play tennis, the movements between joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves must be properly coordinated. This is also the case on the bicycle. An injury to the knee does not necessarily have to come from the knee, this can also come from another part of body related to the movement chain. When an adjustment of the bicycle is not correct, this has a negative influence on the rest of the posture and movement. With my method for bike fitting I can help you out.

Importance of a good cycling position

The importance of a good position on the bike is often underestimated. This is your chance to cycle into the future pain-free and with optimal wattage.

The repetitive motion of cycling can cause serious injuries if the bicycle is not adjusted correctly. Small and common ‘cycling pains’ are not supposed to be part of it and can often be remedied by correcting the position. Prevent your complaints from developing or worsening and go for the reassurance that every pedal stroke is ‘right on the mark’.

Achieving the ideal cycling position by means of a bike fitting

With a bike fit I can ensure we find the ideal cycling position for you in which performance and health on your bike are central. In particular, the long-term health consequences of poor posture are often underestimated. Make sure this does not happen to you and have your bike adjusted during a bike fitting. This will have a positive impact on your posture, even if you’ve been cycling the same position for years.

Adjusting the bike position during the bike fit

My bike fitting method includes that I do not work with averages, but look at your specific situation when adjusting your position on the bike. Various variables play a role in this, such as your age and physical condition – including your weight, flexibility, agility, current or prior injuries, leg length difference, scoliosis, and other factors – as well as the goals you wish to achieve and the type of bicycle you ride are also important in determining the ideal seat on the bicycle.

During the bike fit, you will also receive advice on how you can further perfect your cycling position by working on your body.

Adjusting the bike

When adjusting the e-bike (or city bike, trekking/touring bike, hybrid bike), every part is important: the length of the crankset, the width and geometry of the saddle and handlebars, the stem and seatpost, but also the foot placement on the pedals.
During the bike fitting we examine each part together, I adjust it optimally and provide you with advice if there is room for improvement. If there is still room for improvement after the bike fit, you will always hear from me (this is why I want to stay in contact with my customers)! For example to give advice about purchasing your next frame if your current frame is too small or too large.

I want to achieve the best possible cycling position for you. Therefore, knowing the correct dimensions of the various parts is essential.

If you are interested to know whether all the parts on your bike are suitable for you, then it is important to come first for bike fit advice to assess each component.

After the bike fitting

After a bike fit at De Biomechanieker you no longer have to adapt to your bike, but your bike is fully adapted to you and you can ride comfortably and, mostly importantly, pain-free. In the period after the bike fit I would like to stay in touch to follow the progress you make.
